This course will involve the meaning and definition of gender-related concepts; the differences between gender and sex; gender socialization (social and cultural basis of gender differentiation); Gender roles and theories of Gender role development; Gender as a Social construct (conceptualization and construction of gender as a social and cultural category); Nature and Nurture basis for gender differences, Institutional framework for gender, Feminism and its strands/varieties; approaches to gender and development (WID, WAD and GAD); Impact of gender and development; Relating gender to: Religion and moral society, Politics and Governance, Health illness including HIV/AIDS, agriculture and livelihood, crime and deviance, Education and training, work and industrial relations, gender based violence, peace, war and conflict resolution.
